Yahoo! Evaluates a New Product Concept (“Moneyhound” Website) with an Online Survey

This is an example of how the Web can be a good use of online research for evaluating new product concepts, such as Yahoo!’s “Moneyhound” Website concept.
However, the original pop-up ad that attracted my interest with the chance to win a 0 prize was not as “clear” as it could be, as it gave the distinct impression that merely completing the survey was sufficient to go into a draw for the 0 prize. Instead, there was a “skill” question (judged, not a random draw), which was not disclosed until the very end of the survey (page 17) along with the Terms and Conditions (also not disclosed until page 17).
So, I had completed the survey as the pop-up ad said and should have gone straight into the prize draw….but, “computer says no” [Little Britain effect here], now I need to engage in a “game of skill”.
There was also the issue of how “opt out” was dealt with.
Finally, Yahoo! needed to have the evaluation questions (two 5-point items) on the same page, as I had to toggle back and forth to answer them with respect to the concept.
Thus, a good use but loses marks on the implementation. Still, nothing that cannot be improved on by Yahoo.
